CANADA
JOB NUMBERS
The
U.S. job numbers for July were released last Friday. Overall, more than 39,000 jobs were lost last
week, with most of them being in the public sector. The unemployment rate
increased from 7.1% to 7.2%. In Ontario,
employment was little changed and the unemployment rate was 7.6%. Saskatchewan had the lowest provincial unemployment
rate in Canada at 4.0%.
On
the positive side there have still been 11,000 jobs created on average over the
last 6 months but on the negative side economists had expected employment to
rebound last month.
