Job
numbers for June for both Canada and the U.S. were released this morning. Here are the highlights:
Canada:
Across Canada, there was a loss of about 400 jobs -- a
statistically insignificant number that kept the unemployment rate moored at
7.1 per cent. Following an increase in
May, employment in Ontario was little changed in June, as a gain in part-time
work was offset by a decline in full-time work. The unemployment rate
rose 0.2 percentage points to 7.5%.
U.S.:
The
United States added a better-than-expected 195,000 jobs in June. The unemployment rate held steady at 7.6% as
the number of people in the work force continued to rise.
